1. Australian Open 2011 so far

    Quick catch-up for you guys.

Yesterday Nadal came through his first round match again Daniel; the Brazilian retired as Nadal lead 6-0 5-0. The poor guy was just really out of sorts. Nadal will face Ryan Sweeting at about 1.30am tonight GMT so I might stay up for that.

Roger Federer today came through a very scary match against the unpredictable Frenchman, Gilles Simon. Federer coasted through the first 2 sets but took his foot off the gas as Simon put his pedal to the floor and fought back, taking the third and fourth set. The fifth set was all Federer though, as he raised his level and rallied (excuse the pun), taking the match 6-2 6-3 4-6 4-6 6-3.

This can either be seen as a good thing or a bad thing. I’m in between at the moment. This was either a good test for Federer to come through, and make him not get complacent in future matches when he’s winning easily; or it can be seen as proof that Federer is no longer the power he once was, and can no longer win grand slams.

Put like that I think I prefer option 1…

In other news, the Serbian lovely, Ana Ivanovic, suffered a first round exit after losing from a set up to Ekaterina Makarova. She lost 3-6 6-4 10-8.

We can let her off though, because she’s pretty. Right?
